ABOUT
House of Persian Rugs is the life’s work of Calgary’s Keshmiri family. It was founded by the late Ali Keshmiri, and is now managed by his son Abbas, who continues to grow the company as owner and president. But it’s more than just a place that sells hand-knotted Persian and Oriental carpets. It’s a door to an ancient and beautiful world. We’re its curators. And it’s our privilege to let you in, unlock its mysteries and interpret their meaning.
That’s why we’ve spent the last 40 years making sure that you’ll like what you see here. We’ve traveled the globe in search of the most skilled weavers. Secured their finest works and fairest prices. And built relationships that ensure our collection remains among the finest in the world. We’ve done this so that you end up with a carpet that’s worthy of being in your home.
HISTORY:
Our story began in 1968. Ali Keshmiri, our founder, had just immigrated to Canada. He brought with him two things: his family and his passion for the beautiful carpets of his native Iran. He quickly realized that, given the chance, Calgarians would embrace the hand-knotted creations he grew up with. So he started importing them.
The first shipment was a mere six carpets. But despite not being able to rent a space to display them, Ali sold out in less than a month. Gradually, he moved the business out of his home and into a store. Shortly after, he moved into a larger one, as Calgary and the rest of Canada fell in love with the history and beauty of hand-knotted carpets.
House of Persian Rugs has grown steadily ever since. We’re now the
largest retailer of authentic, hand-knotted Persian and Oriental
carpets in Canada. And our collection of roughly 5000 rugs is unmatched
in quality.
Today, just as before, we continue to travel great distances to deal
directly with the weavers. We encourage them to use the finest
materials and time-honoured techniques. We’ve even setup an education
fund for their children. All this so we can keep the centuries-old
tradition of carpet weaving alive and help write the next chapter in
its story.
